Recorded motor noise ruins videos. - 30 Mar 2005

Check the motor noise before buying
We had the previous version of this camera. The motor noise was so loud it is impossible to watch the videos. When we contacted canon we were told this was normal. External mikes add bulk and cost.
Otherwise the camera works well, the buttons fall comfortably to hand and it would be good value.
Disspointing... - 08 Mar 2004

I have to say I was disapointed by this purchase. This camera is TERRIBLE in low-light conditions. The "colour night vision" is a complete con, its unwatchable. Even inside a room with the lights on at night, its grainy. Other than that, its a perfectly good camera, but only if your shooting during the day.
Great Value for Money - 10 Feb 2004

I have never owned or even used a camcorder before so I spent a long time deciding which digital camcorder was the best for the money I had to spend. I decided on a Canon as I had been informed on good authority that the lenses were very good. I can honestly say that so far so good, up to yet I have been more than pleased.
It's small but not so small that you can't use it effectively. Very quick to get ready for use & really easy to operate. Wide angle lens is a necessity for indoors in average sized rooms - I don't have to move the camera to capture my little boy bouncing on the sofa!
22 x zoom lens is a real bonus, I was told to ignore digital zoom and go for the ones with higher optical zoom & this has proved to be good advice. The microphone is very sensitive, picking up sound from quite a distance. Playback is clear and without interference. I had read that the zoom could sometimes be heard on playback and so I've been careful with the zoom speed and been successful in keeping it from the recording.
There are lots of features that I haven't used yet but I can truly say that when you're parting with £500 you want to make sure that you buy the right product & I firmly believe that I have.
This digital camcorder can be bought for £650 at Dixons or Curry's. Save yourself £140 and buy it from Amazon. It takes a couple of weeks to arrive but well worth it in the end.
Great product - 13 Jan 2004

I spent ages researching camcorders and finally bought the MV650i. It is a super device, quite small but still perfectly usable by someone with largish hands (some of the upright camcorders are just too small). Screen and viewfinder are both good, and the 22x zoom is fantastic!
I think it's worth going for the 650i over the 600i or 630i, because it includes the longer zoom, a bigger battery (which easily lasts for a 90-minute squash game!) and the wide angle attachment (check the price for that on its own).
The software included is OK, and I had no trouble at all connecting it to the PC - the only caveat is that you need to buy the firewire cable separately.

My first camcorder purchase, after a little research this camera had just the right sort of options for me. A shop assistant told me that Canon lenses are very good, and the night modes were what I needed for underground filming. The super night mode turns out to be an LED on the front of the camera and the picture gets a bit jerky in very low light but hey for £500 I am not complaining. The zoom is impressive on this camera some moan about the noise from the button being heard on the film but if you do it gently theres no noise. Plenty of features and potential, buy one here and dont pay £700 in a shop for it, UK.
