Good Camcorder, but Noisy Motor! - 22 Feb 2006

It wasn't so bad if you were recording in LP but in SP it was terrible and it was even bad filming outside. Apart from that it was very good filming in low light and excellent in day light and plus it took really good stills, upto 1600x1200.
If the filming wasn't so noisy i would have kept it and gave it 5 stars but sadly because of that i give it 3.

I have just bought this camera from Amazon having read the reviews on the site, which seem to give the impression that its known motor problem might now be a thing of the past. If my model is anything to go by it isn't. When videoing a quiet room, the noise level from the motor is astonishing and it all transfers to the tape. I was taping over a recording from a Sony camera and when the JVC recording finished and the Sony part resumed, the difference was incredible. I'm surprised that it is still possible to buy cameras with this problem when it has been known about for over a year.
It's quite a shame as the spec is exactly what I wanted, but I wouldn't be able to live with such intrusive camera noise.

i currently have a JVC grd33 which is excellent and very easy to use. i have been watching the grd93 for some time and have now taken the plunge and purchased thru Amazon. i have been looking on e bay and i ahve to say prices are high for the same item. What angers me is the number of people selling these camcorders but in NTSC formats. United states. Not compatible with our system. I happened to be browsing Amazon and came across this camcorder at what i consider to be a very good price. Buying new and from a reputable source has given me the peace of mind that we all need when choosing expensive complex items. i know the camera will be a cracker and i can't wait to use it.thanks Amazon

I've just spent several days looking for a camcorder.
My requirements where: -

1. Under £300 as it's for holdiays, family occasions, etc
2. Must take good quality stills as I don't want carry 2 cameras
3. Good connectivity DV IN/OUT (I have some old video's that I need converting)
4. Ideally a light for the still's and filming in the pub etc

Having looked on just about every web site that featured / sold camcorders this is the one I have chosen, as it is the only one that meets all the above requirements.
The camcorder is now on order with Amazon (most other retailers have this for sale at £300+), and I will report again once I have had time to test it.

The reason I have written the review now, is that I feel my requirements may be quite common, and thought it may help others who are looking at for a camcorder at this time

Having been very disapointed with the noise generated with the motor, and recorded on tape,(see previous review)of the first machine, I sent the camcorder back to Amazon hoping that it was a fault with the machine, and not normal. Amazon have sent me a replacement, refunded the postage, and the replacement machine is great. So I must now admit that the camcorder lives up to all expectations. (Shame JVC Quality control doesnt work!!) Congrats Amazon on excellent srvice
