Forget the still images!!!! - 31 Oct 2004

Yes, the still images are cronic, but thankfully I didn't buy it for that. I wanted a compact modern up to date digital compact dv camcorder with all the toys and guess what....thats what I got. The quality of the picture and sound playback are very very good. Battery life is not eaten up in no time like my old 8mm camcorder. The large 3" lcd is superb...."wish my wife was as happy with an extra half inch". If I was to dare and put any kind of downer on this camera it would be the palm strap which tends to make the camera hang down when you hold it...you have to compensate for this.
Still image is really bad - 21 Oct 2004

Hi,
All other things being good (except video under low light is not as good as my old analogue Sony), but one thing is really bad. The digital still photo quality is really really bad, useless.
I suspect the camcorder is faulty so emailed the photo to JVC tech support but the email seems lost in vein!
Can anyone send me your photo so I can check whether it is faulty. I can send you one if you want. My email is yalouwang at ntlworld.com
Thanks. Yalou
A great camcorder, but.... - 28 Apr 2004

I'd have to agree with "yevsy" in the sense that the quality of the stillimages is VERY poor. As this is the only camcorder I've owned this may bea usual criticism with all of them! My four year old Kodak DC280 gives aright kicking in terms of still imaging!
However in terms what mostpeople will by it for - i.e. video filming - it's great, and sowonderfully compact!
In summation: great for movies, but if you want good stills, then youshould try and budget for a specialist digital camera

JVC DX95 - 10 Jul 2003

The camcorder is great: small, light, easy to use and brilliant video quality. I have bought this camcorder not only for video; the digital camera was one of the main selling points. But even with highest quality settings, stills quality is VERY poor. I’m not going to send these pictures to my friends. Pictures dark, focus is not great and “blocky”. So, if you looking for good quality camcorder with digital camera just go and buy cheaper camcorder and separate digital camera (even cheapest one will give you better quality). Disappointing!
