5 Reviews for Sanyo Xacti CG65 SD Card Digital Movie Camera
compact video - 20 Jul 2008

Had this for about 6 months now and love it. For some time i had been looking for something i can slip in my pocket but quick and easy to use.I was looking for something that was average video and still quality.Something that was good for family parties and capturing motor racing(my hobby). This CG65 is all of the above. You can even get a waterproof one which would be good in the UK climate. It has lots of useful settings and an easy to follow menu. The only fault i can find with it is that when in low light this gives a less than average picture.I have found the battery life to be good(around 40 mins)and an 8GB SDHC memory card will hold over 5 hours worth video. This cost with the extra battery and the SDHC card just over £200. I think its a bargin. So sanyo, if your reading this . I want the same thing but with low light capability
Very good family video and still camera - 02 Jun 2008

This camera has done all that was expected of it. For the price it is unmatchable. Compared to my sony handy cam of approx 10 years old it is so easy and "Handy" to use. The picture quality is fantastic. The portability is great - being so small. The control of the buttons etc is easy and I have VVV large hands (span 10"). -This is all the better to hide the camera when filming. Battery life seems to have lasted at least 40mins of filming, 30 still images, Playing back, both on the camera and to a TV. Editing and saving the films is also easy with the supplied software. Not as technically complicated as some but more than useful for editing and making sense of the raw filming.
OK, its not the top of the range broadcast quality but if you want a family camcorder to slip in the pocket, use on the beach and holiday, take video & pics at the drop of a hat then this is the one. The 5x zoom is fine and the 6 mega pixel is good.
The drop down set-up menus are reasonably easy to follow.
I fitted an 8 GB flash card which seems to hold more than enough holiday video. And an extra charged battery so I'm never without power, not that its been needed yet.
Excellent family friendly camera.
don't believe everything you read - this is a very good camera - 02 May 2008

there are some very very strange comments about this camera. I've owned a lot of cameras over the last 40 years and I can honestly say this is the only camera I have used literally every day- and I have to hand a Fuji F30 and a Nikon D50 SLR. like anything there is a compromise. For £150~£200 you are getting a camera that takes pictures good enough to publish in colour print magazines is light (an advantage) small (but great ergonomics) - I'm a normal sized bloke and there is nothing unusable about this camera. Its small size = small battery so use the image stabilization and turn the flash off, better pictures and better battery life. Anyone who thinks they can cheat the laws of economics and logic and get a fag packet sized camera that will shoot HD quality video is missing the point. It takes MPEG4 video good enough for screen use. Want something better? Get a video camera- but it'll be bigger, heavier and more expensive. For me the macro ability sets it apart from almost everything else- will focus down to objects against the lens distances. You'll find this far more fun and useful than you can imagine. And the articulating screen. And the tiny charger. Recommended.
If you spend your life in the garden in a sunny climate ....... - 22 Feb 2008

......then you'll probably love this dinky little video camera (that is if you can forgive its tinny feel, out of sync audio/video and the fiddliest of lens caps).
Trust me, if you have a hand any bigger than that of a porcelain doll, you'll find this difficult to hold without fearing you're going to drop it at any moment.
At £186, which is what I paid for it, although I wasn't expecting the slickness and build of Panasonic or Sony midrange camcorders, I was expecting more than what I got. I was willing to compromise in order to have a portable camera for ad hoc video moments but not this much. I would have settled for something a bit bigger with a better build and paid a bit more for it.
I feel it's just an expensive gadget.
Poor quality photos - 08 Feb 2008

This was a bought as a replacement for my old dv tape camcorder. I wanted one that would be small enough to be slipped into a pocket, as well as producing decent video and good photos.
It is very small and compact, even smaller than my compact digital camera. The menus and controls are quick to get the hang of and easy to use. The lens cap feels and looks like it was a bit of an after thought. So it definately fulfills my need for something very portable. The video appears to be decent quality, easily sufficient for my home video needs. Low light quality is a bit iffy. The photo quality is disappointing, especially low light using the flash. It produces images (at 6mp quality) that are significantly worse than my old 5mp camera. So far, interior snaps using the flash, have been unusable due to starring on the image. I am guessing this is due to the flash reflecting off the chromed lens surround, but may be something else. I haven't used it for outside photography yet; hopefully that will be better.
As a cheap, very portable camcorder, this fits the bill. As a combined camcorder/camera it falls well short; if I was choosing again i wouldn't buy this one.
